The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

Chapter one

Tom and the Fence

It was Saturday and Tom’s aunt asked. Tom to paint the fence in white. Tom had to do it if he wanted to go with his friends. His friends went to see him and they laughed at him. Tom said that painting was a special job and all his friends wanted to help him and gave him presents. Aunt Polly was very happy when she saw the painted fence and she gave Tom a big apple. Tom could go and play with his friends.

Chapter two

Tom and Huck

On Sunday the children went to Sunday school and to the church with the family. Tom didn’t like Sunday school. That Sunday he took a big black beetle to the church and put it on the floor. A small dog started barking and running after the beetle. Everybody was laughing.

On Monday Tom met thick on the way to school and he was late the teacher did not like this and hit him and sent him to sit with the girls. There was a new girl Becky and Tom sat next to her. He drew a picture of a house and a man for her.

That night he met Huck and they decided to go the graveyard the bury a dead cat because a dead cat can call ghosts out of the graves.

Chapter three

The Graveyard

While Tom and Huck were in the graveyard to bury the dead cat. They heard noises. Huck saw ghosts. They were scared. They saw that they were people. They were Injun Joe and Muff Potter and Dr Robinson. They were grave robbers. They wanted a dead body for the doctor.

They took out the body of Hoss Williams bat they disagreed about the money. Muff and the doctor fought and fell but Injun Joe took Muff’s knife and killed the doctor.

Muff was confused and Injun told him he had killed the doctor. Injun put the knife with blood next to the doctor. Muff had drunk a lot of “whisky” and could not remember.

The boys decided this death would be a secret. They were afraid of Injun Joe

Chapter four

Jackson’s Island

The next day everybody knew about the doctor’s death. The sheriff arrested Muff Potter and put him in jail. It was summer and it was the holidays. The boys could play, finish and swim.

Tom was not happy because of his secret. So he decided to run away with Joe and Huck to Jackson’s Island. They would be pirates. They left at midnight and took food from their homes. They cooked and slept under the stars. They saw a lot of boats in the river. They felt like heroes because they knew everybody was looking for them.

At night Tom went back to the village to see what was happening. He learnt that there would be their funeral the next Sunday and the people were sad. They decided to return and they appeared in the middle of the funeral. Everybody was very happy and they celebrated it.
